Announcing Globster: A Direct Connect Client (...framework)

Post by Ayo » 15 Dec 2012, 13:27

Lately I've been working on a new DC client, and I think it's gotten to the point that it can actually be used already. Though the functionality is still really, really limited.

Anyway, I'm announcing Globster!

The goal of Globster is more to a complete framework/library for writing bots and user interfaces. It runs as a background daemon and you can interact with it through a high-level D-Bus API (documented here).

I've already used Globster to power a simple RSS/git/bug tracker notification bot in my own hub, and I was rather surprised myself to find out how easy that was to setup. That said, due to the current lack of some introductionary documentation, getting Globster running and writing scripts for it may not be as trivial at the moment. I'll write a simple guide or so later on.

Oh, and I should mention that I've only tested Globster on Linux at the moment. Other UNIX-like systems will follow, but a native Windows version is going to be rather unlikely. Cygwin is probably going to work, though.

Feedback is very welcome. :-)
